Review - Ballistol Multi-Purpose Lubricant

Ballistol comes in
an aerosol can.
We all love to be prepared. Part of being prepared means having the right tools for the job. When it comes to everyday carry, we often do not know the jobs that await us throughout the day, and like to have extra tools just in case. These extra tools are often knives, multi-tools, flashlights and firearms. However, many of these tools require maintenance to remain in good working condition. I'm not talking about repair, I'm talking about normal everyday cleaning to keep your tools (which are often made of steel) rust-free so that they work when you need them to.

The best cleaner/lubricant that I have found is Ballistol. Many of you have heard of Ballistol; it is a multi-purpose all-in-one solution to cleaning, lubricating and preserving your knives and guns. I have been using it for years and can't say enough good things about it.

If you have a knife, especially a folding knife, you need to keep it lightly oiled and free of dust and debris to keep it working well. A light coating of oil will prevent oxidation (rust) of your steel, and will also keep the hinge lubricated, so that your knife will open smoothly. It is a good idea to lubricate your blades every few days under light use, or every day under heavier use.

Ballistol also comes in a spray bottle, which is
my personal favorite. The spray bottle allows
you to control how much Ballistol to dispense.
Another EDC tool that often needs cleaning are handguns. Many people with concealed carry permits carry firearms for self-defense. These often get full of lint and need to be cleaned. Firearms are also often carried close to the body, making them prone to rust due to sweat, something that can actually be corrosive over time. Depending on your method of carry, it is also a good idea to clean and lubricate your firearm every few days. With Ballistol, you have are able to do both.

What I like most about Ballistol is how well it works. It does a darn good job of dissolving grease and removing most types of crud that can often stick to knives or guns. It also works great to clean the barrel of a firearm after you've shot it. Using Ballistol, I can clean a pistol in about 5-10 minutes. After cleaning the inside about the barrel looks as good as new.

For easy use on the go, Ballistol
comes in individually packaged wipes.
Ballistol is also a natural and non-toxic alternative to smelly cleaners and solvent such as Breakfree CLP and Hoppes 9. There's nothing wrong with those cleaners, but from personal experience, I often get headaches from the fumes of those chemicals. Ballistol, to me, smells like licorice and I kind of like it!

If you haven't tried it yet, I recommend taking a look at Ballistol for cleaning your knives and guns. It's not only great for those, but it can also be used to clean any sort of mechanical metal tool, and it's great because after you're done cleaning, your tool is already lubricated and ready to use.

Do any of you have any experience with Ballistol? If so, let us know in the comments below.
